The question nobody has been asking about Alvin Greene
Alvin Greene is an enigma. As such, there has been much speculation about how an unemployed and near-destitute political neophyte with essentially no qualifying resume and who has been charged with felony obscenity won the South Carolina Democratic primary election (with 60% of the votes) to run for the office of United States Senator.
However, there is one very important question that nobody in the media has been asking. Leave it to the “professionals” to overlook the most obvious and parsimonious of all questions to ask… What if Alvin Greene won the Democratic Primary election fairly?
I believe that this question is not being asked due to fear of what the answer might mean. If the answer to this question is true, it means that South Carolina Democrats have lost their ability to control their own electorate. For the media, it means that they dropped the ball in failing to cover a surprise rags-to-riches candidate.
For the public at large, a valid primary election victory for Alvin Greene could mean several things. It could say something about the values, priorities, or awareness of South Carolina Democratic Party members. It could also provide a case study for how an outsider, with absolutely no resources, can beat the powerful machine of a state political party. The nomination of Alvin Greene could ultimately shake the very foundations of our two-party political system.
Despite that there has not been any real evidence to indicate that Alvin Greene has done anything illegal or even unethical during his campaign, I admit, that I too find his election to be baffling, and perhaps we will learn that something was indeed amiss. However, I also believe that any good investigation begins by looking first at the simplest of all possibilities.
